If you couldn't paint a brush stroke to save your life, then stenciling is for you!

Stencils give unbelievable results for those of us who don't paint. The products available these days make it so easy it's almost fool proof.

  • There's a spray on temporary adhesive that holds the stencil in place for you so you don't have to worry about it slipping around.
  • The number of applicators just keeps growing. You'll find everything from little round sponge-on-a-sticks to very expensive huge round brushes.
  • If you're on a really tight budget, you can just use a kitchen or sea sponge as an applicator. This paint process is so forgiving.
  • The stencils themselves are really pretty simple in design. It's a design cut out of plastic (usually) and may consist of just the one layer for simple patterns or up to 4 or more that you just layer on top of each other.

HINT:

If the fabric item you want to stencil is washable, wash it before doing any painting technique and do not use fabric softeners. Press as needed. Most fabric items have a sizing in them when new, which might make your paint not adhere as well.
