Space Kid Room Theme Ideas & Resources
Decorating with an outer space theme for the budding astronaut . . .
My first piece of advice with this theme is to not let the room get too dark. The majority of wallpapers, murals and bedding seem to have a dark background of either blue or black.
If there's a nook, corner or just one side of the room that you can use these dark background items on, you could then lighten up the rest of the room.
Space Kid RoomTheme Walls . . .
Wallpaper, murals, Wallies or borders
Here's a great option if you have sloped ceilings. You could paper the one wall and on up the sloped ceiling with one of the outer space wallpapers. Add a few glow in the dark stars and you'll be set. This gives the change to do the treatment without overwhelming the room. It would work best to have this be the wall the bed is on, or the wall across the room from the bed, so your child gets a good view of it.
Go to the
, use the left column, put a check mark in all the little boxes, type in the word space and you'll get several results for space theme border and wallpaper.
You'll find some wallpaper outer space murals at Murals Your Way. Just type the word space in the search box. My favorite is "Earthrise".
WallNutz Paint By Number Mural Kits are an easy and inexpensive way to create your child's dream room or nursery. No artistic ability required! They have an outer space kid room theme wall mural pattern that would be easy to do, and you can just do the parts that you want. I don't see any reason you couldn't use the pattern to paint on a plain comforter too.

Paint finishes
Paint the walls midnight blue flat or satin. You'll feel like you are in a cave, but don't worry, it gets better. Then go back and sponge on white paint to give appearance of atmosphere, or clouds.
Use a sea sponge for best random results. You can either clump your sponging together to look like large clouds, or spread them out and make them thinner, giving the look of atmosphere.
You might want to try this inside the closet or on a big piece of cardboard box until you get the look you like.
Space Kid Room Theme Furniture and Bedding . . .
Visit ShowPlace Accent Furniture to view this corner desk. Just type Digital Dock in the search box. Okay, okay, use your imagination here. To me it looks a bit like the command center of a space shuttle or other transportation device. It'll work in a space kid room theme!

Of course in the kid bathroom you really need to have the shower curtain since that adds the biggest splash of theme in that room. The Galaxy kid bedding set above has a coordinating kids shower curtain, and is the only decent one I've seen recently.
Get some small accents like the toothbrush holder, night light, switch plate, shower curtain rings, and maybe a wall hanging or two. If you want even more, get a matching window treatment, which will more than likely just be a valance. . . . . and maybe the wallpaper border or some Wallies.
However . . . Space kid room theme bath accessories are hard to come by right now, so you might want to consider getting some sheets to make a shower curtain, cover a hamper, waste basket & kleenex box etc. for the accessories.
Space kid room theme Wallies CutOuts and Wallies Murals would be great to adhere to some solid color bathroom accessories and the walls! The link to the Wallies page is in the top row after you get to their site, or you can just click on an image below.
When it's time to change . . . . .
All you need to do is pull off the space kid room theme wallpaper border and replace it with a new kid room theme. Replace the rest of the space kid room theme items with the new ones, including the things in the bathroom, and you're all set. You did that in about an hour! Not bad!
