Red White and Blue Theme
a.k.a. Americana, Nautical, Versatile!
This red, white and blue theme would work for the girls or the guys. You can take it into the flag theme or a nautical theme if you'd like. Or you can do like I'm doing and do a generic red, white and blue theme which can easily be changed out for any gender or age.
The idea here is to show you how a basic red white blue theme can span the ages, various themes and boys and girls. It works!
First thing I want to say is that it's really disappointing that it's so difficult to find girls bedding sets and room decor in anything but the pastels and hippy chic colors. Red white blue theme shag pillows, rugs and a flower power comforter would be cool. Just think denim. Denim is always in style!

What to do with the Windows . . .
How about a Roman flag? Let me re-phrase that. How about a roman shade made from an American flag? (Of course any flag will work depending on your colors and preferences!)
I'm going to cop out and send you here for instructions for a simple roman shade, or here for a bit more complicated set of instructions. And here is a flag site where you can purchase various sized flags. The 4 x 6 is a good size for most windows, with the stripes running up and down, and the stars at top.
A couple more ideas for window treatments using Flags:
Okay, you liked the flag idea but didn't like the idea of making a roman shade. There are alternatives.
1. Add a few more grommets to the flag binding, and run some rope through the holes and wrap the rope around the rod as you go. Use one flag to cover the window, tieing it back with matching rope, or use two flags and use them as side panels.
2. Instead of messing around with adding grommets and maybe ruining your flag/flags, use clip-on rings to hang the flag. This way your flag will slide easily if you want a treatment that opens and closes. This also works great if you want to hang it the traditional horizontal way . (A great way to hang on the wall for a wallhanging too). Or. . .
3. Scrunch the flag up on each end and attach to a tulip swag holder (or some other holder or bracket) and make yourself a nice swag. If your flag is large, you might even have enough to swag over the pole in the middle. Work it a little bit and dress it nicely so the stars show.
