Basketball, Baseball, Soccer and Football - the whole 9 yards . . .
The kid room theme sports is a classic for boys or girls of any age. This page covers the ball sports, such as basketball, baseball, soccer and football and a few others.
Most sports seem to lean towards primary colors so if you were to choose to decorate with a non-theme primary color bedding set (see below) and wall colors, you could use just about any sports theme for the room accessories, or even rotate between themes easily.
Hoop Dreams . . .
Hang an old basketball hoop from the wall with the laundry basket or waste basket below it to make cleaning up a little more fun. You can also use S hooks to hang things from the hoop instead of the shaker peg shelves.
In a girls room hang the hoop above the bed and hang sheers or netting from it like a canopy only not quite as frilly. Or how about hanging it from the wall with school pennants hanging from it, and letting a light (one that hangs from ceiling by chain) hang down through it. Just be careful about fire hazards.

Organized Sports . . .
There are also some nice organizers for sports equipment which you could use in your kid's sports theme room. You just as well use their equipment as part of their kid room theme sports decor! If you go to Target Kids Category, and type SPORTS into the search box in upper left, and select FURNITURE as the category, you'll get lots of sports themed storage pieces.
Underbed storage drawers are also good for seasonal kid room theme sports storage. Or get old lockers and paint them to match, or put sports stickers all over them for a kid room theme sports room.
Wall Decor . . .
School and team pennants make good wall decor for the kid room theme sports, as do your childs letters earned in sports at school. Take photos during his games, and when you get one or two you or he really likes, mat and frame them and hang them on the wall. See if you can get all the players in the photo to sign the mat, and date it. It will become a keepsake of childhood memories.

Attach metal flashing (make sure a magnet will stick to it) you get from your home improvement store to the wall and use it like a wallpaper border. Hang it around eye level, and trim it out with some molding to hide the edges and make it safe. Then frame various photos in matching frames of different sizes ( some horizontal some vertical) that will fit on the flashing, and put some of that flat and flexible magnet on the back, and voila'! A great way to display photos in a kid room theme sports bedroom.
If she has favorite sports figures, find posters of them and put in inexpensive frames that can easily be changed out when the mood strikes.
If you can get your hands on an old mannequin, you could dress it in full uniform and stand it in the corner. Even a cardboard one would work. What better way to store the uniform wrinkle free between games, or even between seasons. And if they've outgrown it all the better! You can just leave it on there.
