Only buy what you need
You don't need to buy all the pieces to get the full effect. Start with how much money you want to spend, and how long you expect to use this theme. Here are a couple examples of how you could go about it.
EXAMPLE ONE:
Get the firehouse tent futon bed. It's a dual purpose piece which is key in the kid's rooms. It's a place to sleep and a place to play (aka fort). Then pick up the firehouse bookcase, the fire engine coat rack and the bath set.
You can get some basic bedding (meaning not firefighter themed), which you can use for a later decor when you decide to change the room.
A lot of kids themes are based on primary colors, so if you paint the room with primary colors, it too can work with a future theme. Yellow or a light blue on the walls, with dark blue and red accents.
EXAMPLE TWO:
Use a regular bed, nightstand and dresser, buy the Ladder Company bedding above from Company Kids or the fire truck quilt. Add some accessory pieces, like the fire engine coat rack, fire engine rug and a growth chart. This is really the way to go if you're on more of a budget, because the furniture will last for more than just this one theme.
You can use the same paint job mentioned above. Throw in a few fireman related toys, which you probably already have if you're considering this theme and you're set. Later, the bed and paint will work with a future theme. The bedding may well end up to be one of those 'collectible' pieces that you keep forever.
