Decorating Idea Teen Boys To Get You Started
Most guys don't like a lot of "fuss" when it comes to their rooms. Teen boys? Guys? They're not really boys any more, and they're not quite men yet. But there are some really nice designs and themes that are perfect for them. And if you're really at a loss as to where to even start thinking about this project, read my article on Teen Room Decorating.
HINT: Use matching sheets, bed skirts and spreads for making other decorating items for the room.
If he's into sports, you won't want to miss OnlineSports.com, the oldest and largest sports catalog on the internet. They not only have a huge selection of sports gear and toys, but they also have the sports teams shower curtains, bedding, pillows and many more decorative items for his bedroom. How's that for a decorating idea teen boys?
If your son is interested in helping you decorate his room, you're in luck. First of all, he's gotten old enough that he can give you his opinion and secondly he can help! If he doesn't care what you do, watch out! You might go to all that work and expense, and then you'll hear about it, and hear about it, and hear about it.
Not Sure Where To Start?
What does he like to do? Is he into sports, computers, NASCAR, video games, movies or maybe
cooking? This will be where you can get a decorating for teen boys theme in mind. Is he Mr. Neat & Tidy, or is he from Slobovia? Does he dress preppie, surfer or biker? All these things can give you some starting points for decorating a teen boys bedroom.

So even if he's not that interested in it, at least get some hints what he'd like to have. Of course if you know his likes and dislikes you should have it made in the shade for the decorating idea teen boys room foundation. You'll be able to choose colors, furniture and window treatments. And he can add his own accessories.
You know my mantra......start out with basic bedding and window treatments, and then add a few themed accessories, including some wall hangings or posters. Check out the selection of Boy's Teen Bedding on eBay for some ideas to get you started. To me, the way to go is to use either solid or striped bedding because you can mix and match so many things with it. Why not plaid? Well, you can use plaid if you're careful. Many of them look too 'country', which is fine if that's where you're headed with his room.
So let's say you got a striped bedding set and a window treatment that is pretty generic. Here are some ideas of what you can do with it.
- Paint the walls a nice shade of blue, paint a red stripe around the room, hang an old surf board on the wall, or paint a couple surf boards on the wall, or use surf board posters, get some surf board or beachy themed accessories and he'll be catching a cool wave in no time!
- No matter what theme you're going for, with stripes on the bed, you can easily go with circles, squares or triangles on the floor for a rug, or paint them on the wall for a more modern feel.
- And any themed items will work, whether it's football, surfing, Harley or even NASCAR!
- Pick a stripe that has colors that go with his favorite NASCAR (or whatever theme) accessories.
A nice shade of blue or a lighter shade of the gold would work great on the walls. Hey! Go crazy! Paint
one wall in huge black and white squares for a checkered flag look! Add a string of black
and white checkered pennants that you could put around the top of the other walls like a wall
border.
I found some really cool wall clocks at Cool Stuff Cheap, like Corvette, Chevrolet parts, Stainless steel with black face, Alloy retro wall clock and a bunch more that would look good for this decorating idea teen boys room. Then add a throw rug with some coordinating colors in it and it's a done deal!
For the best selection and prices for teen to adult bedding check out Domestications catalog. They've got a huge selection at great prices. Last time I checked they had several striped sets, tropical beachy styles, colorful retro prints and more. They also usually have a select few furniture pieces that might work.

Choosing furniture, bedding and accessories.
At this point in his life, he's probably due for some new furniture. Unless of course you bought relatively conventional quality furniture when he was young so you could use it forever. Here are a few places to check out:
- HomeDecorators catalog has a huge selection. I've bought from them before and was satisfied with my purchase.
- Bellacor has select furniture and a bunch of lighting options.
- Also check out Target's line of furniture for a great selection.
Keep in mind what his and your plans are. Will he be taking this furniture with him when he moves out, or will you have him leave it there so you can use his room as a guest room? How many years will he be using it? If it's only a couple, you can get away with less expensive furniture.
If you're wanting to buy him something that will last and that he can take along to college for the dorm or to his first apartment, you should be looking at quality built furniture, which of course will cost a few more bucks. If it would work for him, you could check out antiques and second hand furniture, and refinish some pieces. They don't build it like they used to you know.
You could spend $700 on a new headboard and footboard with frame, and you could also spend the same amount of money for an antique or used bed, which has already survived a couple generations and will last a few more if taken care of. I'm just sayin'. . . .!
Here are some ideas for teen furniture that might give you a starting point.
