Beach Theme, Ocean And Tropical Decor

The beach theme can be used for kids or adults and male or female. There are many colors and accessory choices that can make the age and gender difference. Think sand, seashells, driftwood and shades of blue and green to depict the sea or ocean.

This theme would work for the girls or the guys. For the boys, use stripes, plaids or solids for the bedding and curtains. The girls would probably like tropical leaves and palm trees on theirs. Of course you could add surf boards to either room, along with other surfer themed items. It just depends on which direction you want to go.

Check out eBay's Ocean Theme Decor for many more beach, seashells and tropical themed items that aren't readily available elsewhere. When you get to the ebay page with ocean and beach theme items, look on the left and you will see it broken down into categories which makes your search easier.

Keep in mind that if you're on a budget and can't afford to "do the whole thing" every couple years, just follow the basics from Nursery Decorating.

Ideas for window treatments:

  • Use a raffia and sea shell table skirt to make a valance and cafe curtain. Tape it off where you want to cut it with some masking tape, and cut down the center of your tape. This will help keep it from raveling. They're about 29" long, so you may want to cut it shorter for a valance, say between 18-24".

The full 29" length would work as the cafe curtain. Then you could just put an inexpensive roller shade or mini blind behind it for privacy. You could use the clip-on type curtain rings and clip them right onto the skirting.
  • Most fabric stores carry an inexpensive voile mesh type fabric. This would make great beach theme curtains, or just drape and swag it over a rod or on swag holders. It's usually 48" wide in white or ivory.

You could sew in a rod pocket and put on a curtain rod, or as inexpensive as it is you could just double it and hang it over the rod, and puddle it on the floor and use a tie back made from a sea shell necklace.

Or instead of puddling it, just tie a big knot on the end. Use hot glue and add some sea shells and small driftwood pieces here and there for accent. This would look great as a curtain under the raffia valance mentioned above, and as an accent for a beach theme room.
  • Check for ocean themed rug and stitchery kits as well as a great selection of ocean theme fabrics. And how about making your own wall decor by framing some of your favorite beach photos, prints or postcards from your trip. Paint the frames driftwood gray, cover the mat board with some beach or seashell wrapping paper and add your artwork.
  • for their tie dye knit jersey bedding. It'll make you feel like you're floating in the ocean!
  • This will add some pizzazz!
  • And you gotta check out WildThings for beaded and shell curtains and capiz shell chandeliers! Fun stuff.

This is cute and colorful lamp.
